Blessing of animals at the Fountains scheduled for Sunday October 3 | Religious News

In honor of the feast of St. Francis next week, The Fountains, a United Methodist church, is hosting an animal blessing celebration on Sunday, October 3.

The community is invited to bring their “furry, feathered, scaly, winged, webbed, finned, archanidy or shell friends” to the 9:30 am blessing.

A professional photographer will be on hand to take pictures of visitors and their pets. The morning will also include a petting zoo (with an alpaca) and a chance for people to visit furry friends from Fearless Kitty Rescue and reptilian friends from the Arizona Herpetological Society. Girl Scouts will distribute gift bags.

The outdoor gathering will include a brief ceremony with live music followed by blessing time for individual pets and an opportunity to meet and mingle with other pets and their human friends.

Reverend Dr Matthew Fox, a well-known advocate for the spirituality of creation, said he was excited about the Fountains celebration.

“It’s not just us who bless the animals,” Fox said. “Remember the animals bless us every day, many of whom, along with their company and support, have helped us through this pandemic. “

Fox will be the special guest of Pastor David Felten via Zoom for the Studio Online service from October 3, which will also be at 9:30 a.m. on YouTube and Facebook.

Join the Blessing at the Fountains, 15300 N. Fountain Hills Blvd.

Limited seating and light refreshments will be available.
