âI realized that in order to make my dream come true, I couldn’t just sit there and wish for a star,â Ms. F. said. âI really have to do something about it.â
GILBERT, Arizona – As if teaching during a pandemic wasn’t enough of a challenge, an art teacher from Valley also decided it was the perfect opportunity to accomplish one of his big goals, inspiring students to Arizona en route.
Jenni Feidler-Aguilar is a Gilbert art teacher who shapes hundreds of growing minds each school year in the city.
âI love to see kids create,â Feidler-Aguilar said. “I love seeing their imaginations and what they come up with.”
Feidler-Aguilar, or Mrs. F, teaches in Gilbert and Mesquite elementary schools. She also puts into practice what she preaches, taking her talent to the pages of children’s books.
âI realized that to make my dream come true, I cannot just sit there and wish for a star,â she said. “I really have to do something about this.”
Ms. F, landed her first contract as an illustrator amid the pandemic, while teaching art remotely.
His first illustrated book, Brave in the water, just released in April.
âI think this is a very important message not only for swimming, but also for everything you are afraid to do in life,â she said.
Jenni’s first illustrations were successful, and now she’s filling the pages of her second title.
âIt features a child from many different countries around the world saying ‘I love you’ in his native language,â she said.
The book is called I love you around the world.
âIt’s a very beautiful message of oneness and how we are all part of the human race,â she said.
It’s a timely story of kindness, reminding readers that while we might say I love you differently, the phrase shares a particular common meaning.
He also shows how a few early sketches and paint can bring words and pages to life, just like his students’ own aspirations.
âIt’s something that seems surreal to them at first, but when you have the opportunity to take that chance and take that risk, you can make it a reality,â Ms. F.
