For many of our black brothers and sisters today is the celebration of Ujima – it is the third of the seven principles of the week-long Kwanzaa celebration which means “collective work and responsibility”.
Kwanzaa for many is an alternative to Christmas, where African Americans can celebrate our rich history and seven key tenets that have helped us overcome the extreme adversity of slavery and racism. However, it appears that for Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who is white, the party is nothing more than an invented “religion”.
Greene chose to make his intolerance known to Kwanzaa on Day 1, which traditionally begins on Boxing Day and ends a week later on New Years Day (January 1). “Stop. This is a false religion created by a psychopath,” Greene wrote in response to a tweet from the College Republican National Committee, which wished for a “happy and prosperous Kwanza. The celebration of Kwanzaa, which is not a religion as Marjorie ignorantly claimed, is very real to millions of people around the world and is no less “false” than any other man-made holiday. . What is also not fictitious are the claims recognized during the seven days of Kwanzaa, including Umoja for unity, Kujichagulia for self-determination, the aforementioned Ujima for collective work and responsibility, Ujamaa for cooperative economy, Nia for the goal, Kuumba for creativity and finally Imani for faith.

Although it appears that Greene’s tweet referred to Dr. Maulana Karenga, who created Kwanzaa in 1966 but has a complicated history that includes assault and torture convictions, his opinion seemed more to reflect his position as a radical Republican. Many may remember last week when she made a comment about the “yellows” to a group of conservative youth in Arizona, and we don’t even need to mention her public statement to Black Lives Matter as a “terrorist group.” To prove that she might have a problem when it comes to anyone of non-white descent.
Anyway, Kwanzaa is actually a real vacation unlike what Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted, which she refused to delete in case you want to see the evidence below:
